National Assembly President Urges Continued Non-Communicable Disease Prevention

Phnom Penh: National Assembly President, Khuon Sodary, requested stakeholders to continue to promote awareness of risks and methods to prevent non-communicable diseases in order to make people more aware, especially among women, and to facilitate for medical check-ups and affordable.

National Assembly President Khuon Sodary made this call on the occasion of opening a consultative workshop on "Non-Communicable Diseases prevention and Approch to Reduce Gender Disparity Resulted caused by NCDs" on Monday morning, December 18, 2023 at the Cambodiana Hotel.

The National Assembly President stressed that health education should not only focus on providing information to the community on what can and cannot be done.

"We need to have peaceful rules that take into account changes in attitudes, lifestyles, diets and living environment using data and technology, as well as campaigning for the support of health agencies and communities, such as volunteers for those who live in remote areas, it is difficult to get health services." she said.

On that occasion, the National Assembly also requested the National Health Authority to work together with government institutions, the private sector and partners to share information, data, training programs and best practices to establish a multi-sectoral partnership in research and prevention of non-communicable diseases be highly effective, especially considering the specific needs of women, who are generally different from men in access to information and training on nutrition and health care, as well as financial access to treatment.

She confirmed that the National Assembly of Cambodia has actively performed its role in contributing to the protection and promotion of people's health.

The National Assembly has enacted comprehensive and comprehensive laws that address the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases and address gender inequalities in public policy, such as the Tobacco Control Law, the Consumer Protection Law, the Food Safety Act and the Plant protection and phytosanitary.
